Faber Maunsell were appointed to design the CCTV system, parking ticketing system and assist in the project implementation phase.

A major consideration for the Interchange was the provision of a CCTV to ensure the car park can provide a secure and safe environment for all its users and staff. Equally important to the car parks successful operation was the parking revenue system which is essential when operating a car park in a city centre location to help maintain the staffing levels required to provide a safe and clean car park. The CCTV system was complimented throughout the car park with a help point facility which was link directly with the CCTV system. The CCTV system was linked back to a central control room where the system can be managed by dedicated control room staff, leaving the car park staff to personalise the experience of shoppers, local employees and commuters alike.

The parking system was designed as a pay on foot system with automatic barriers on the second floor level of the development where the car parking facility was located above the bus station. Additional barriers were required on the top level of the car park to create a nested area for business’ that leased term parking.

The ticketing system also provided additional security for the car park with the introduction of a car park ticket access control system that maintained a secure envelope around the car park out of hours.

To maintain a high efficiency for the lease term car park users and to reduce waiting times a long range reader system was applied to the design this enabled the lease term users to remain within there vehicles whilst assisting the management of the car park nested area.

Manchester Transport Interchange was a key element in the regeneration of Manchester city centre, the Interchange comprised of a spacious, light and airy bus station, Metrolink tram stop and multi storey car park, the latter serving the adjacent Printworks entertainment complex and Exchange Square developments.
