The building has the feel of a private health club, with materials such as timber cladding and glazed curtain walling giving the centre a strong contemporary look.

Developed by Leicester City Council, Braunstone Community Association and Sport England as part of ‘A New Deal for Braunstone’ – the £multi-million scheme to improve the area - the new centre boasts two swimming pools, a health and fitness suite and a six-court sports hall. There’s also a well-equipped cr�che and a comfortable caf� bar.

One of the major pool features includes a moveable boom and pool floor to provide deep water when required for sub-aqua diving, synchronised swimming and competitive swimming making this one of the finest short course facilities in the East Midlands.

In November 2005 the pool hosts the British Synchronised Swimming Championships.

The moveable floor can also be raised to provide shallow water for a wide variety of swim sessions, including those for parents and babies, beginners' swimming and aqua aerobics.

Braced steel frame with reinforced concrete basement and pools.
Glulam under slung beams with 29 m clear span with 5.3 m glulam cantilever section.
Cellular beams with 28m span over sports hall.
Two 25 m swimming pools. The competition pool has a movable floor and boom for maximum flexibility.
Use of composite precast concrete elements for quality and efficiency.
Flexible sports hall which can accommodate various sporting activities such as badminton and basket ball.
Pad foundations.
Recycled material was used for the build up below the roads and ground bearing slabs. This was achieved by using lime stabilised clay.
Extensive landscaping undertaken to utilise excess material on site.
Provision of 300m³ of storm water attenuation.
