Queen Mary's Hospital

Roehampton, UK

Project outline

Queen Mary’s Hospital Roehampton provides possibly the world’s leading centre of excellence in the development of prosthetics.  The modernisation and refurbishment has completely transformed the large-scale site.

Amongst the innovative aspects of the project is a workshop for making and fitting artificial limbs, a unique stabilised floor for the room in which patients make their first efforts to walk with artificial limbs and a gym specially designed for use by people recovering from the loss of one or more limbs.

The 24,000m² three to four storey hospital building is built on the northern perimeter of the current Queen Mary’s site. Its compact design meant that the existing hospital remained open throughout construction with all patient services running as usual throughout the construction period.  The project provides a 139-bed community hospital

Lend Lease Facilities Management maintains much of the hospital’s medical and non-medical equipment and Sodexho provides catering, portering, cleaning, security and estate management services. Wandsworth PCT and South West London & St George’s Mental Health Trust delivers all the clinical services.
