Education
Faber Maunsell is helping to deliver the educational future today by using good design to deliver sustainable and flexible learning facilities throughout the educational sector.

We work with schools, colleges, universities and research establishments to create buildings and facilities that accurately meet evolving needs within the educational sector.
As sector specialists, we are constantly in touch with current issues at every stage of the educational process, from primary and secondary schools, through sixth form colleges and new-style academies, FE colleges to universities and postgraduate teaching facilities. We are also experienced in the design of special needs facilities.
Our education team is part of the UK’s biggest school buildings investment programme, creating new schools and revitalising or closing failing ones as part of a government drive to modernize the country’s education facilities. This work extends from strategic advice and overall project management through to technical consultancy on planning approval, architectural design, sustainability and ICT infrastructure. We also advise on diverse aspects such as equipment procurement, curriculum planning, staff recruitment, stakeholder consultation, change management and succession planning.
Our design capabilities span the entire process of developing buildings for education. We can provide initial site assessment using transportation and environmental criteria to achieve the most sustainable outcome. We work with architects and building contractors to create outstanding engineering designs that incorporate the very latest advances in structural design and building services technology.
We can call on in-house teams specialising in crucial fields such as acoustics, fire engineering, facades, sustainability, energy, lighting and information/communication technology.
Our operational consultancy services range from asset assessment, maintenance management and energy assessment through to environmental management and health and safety.
All education projects require a wide range of expertise to achieve a successful outcome. We combine core skills and specialist technical knowledge, harnessed within the overall context of a team which has in-depth knowledge of the entire educational sector. Our project managers are specialists who have been teachers, directors of education or local authority advisers.
Through the 3es Innovation Network, we develop long-term relationships with our client schools, helping them to benefit from the latest advances in best practice. This work includes research on innovative leadership and communication through conferences.
We have been closely involved with the preparation and development of many national guidance documents, including School Travel Plans, Sustainable Design Guide for Schools, Building Regulations Part L, Building Bulletins 93 and 101. In this role, we are effectively helping to set the standards and practices that government wishes to establish, and are therefore ideally placed to provide authoritative advice to schools and other educational establishments.
We have a strong commitment to sustainability and energy efficiency, with a dedicated sustainable development team that is consistently finding new ways to reduce the long-term impact of building activities.
