Faber Maunsell was commissioned in 2004 by the Yorkshire & Humber Assembly and Yorkshire Forward to undertake the development of a Regional Freight Strategy for the Yorkshire and Humber region.  The Yorkshire and Humber Freight Strategy was published in 2005. 
Since publication, Faber Maunsell has been employed by both Yorkshire & Humber Assembly and Yorkshire Forward to assist in the delivery and implementation of the Yorkshire & Humber Freight Strategy.
Faber Maunsell continues its support of the Strategy steering group which comprises key regional stakeholders and is responsible for the overall monitoring of the progress of the Strategy, as well as providing a lobbying platform for freight and logistics issues in the Yorkshire and Humber region.

Project detail

This project has been ongoing for 3.5 years and dates back to the original collection of baseline statistics from an analysis of freight traffic movements in, to and from the Yorkshire and Humber region by all the various modes of transport. Following this major piece of work a Regional Freight Strategy (RFS) was developed which looked to provide direction and a list of actions for the successful expansion of the freight industry. The RFS contained 30 policies with most specifying actions. As there were so many actions it was decided to establish a steering committee that would oversee the work of four delivery groups. These delivery groups are still meeting and cover the areas of security, skills, road freight and multi-modal freight. Faber Maunsell continues to provide the secretariat for the steering group and the roads and multi modal groups. In addition we continue to supply Local Authorities and other stakeholders with interesting topical information on a range of freight matters.
