Apollo Bridge

Project outline

Apollo Bridge is the fifth crossing of the River Danube in Bratislava enabling the connection of the Petrzalka district with those of Mlynske nivy and Ruzinov. The project, which was part-funded with loans from the European Investment Bank, creates a direct link and reduces traffic congestion elsewhere in the City, but especially on the Stary and Novy Bridges.

The project consists, in total, of a 518m-long main bridge structure, a six-span steel structure with a 231m-long steel arch main span over the River Danube, 232m of prestressed concrete approach viaducts, reconstruction of a 1.2km length of Kosicka Street, reconstruction and relocation of many services and environmental mitigation measures.

Faber Maunsell, in association with the Czech consultant Pontex s.r.o, were appointed as the Client’s consultant for the implementation of the scheme. In this role Faber Maunsell was responsible for reviewing the Environmental Impact Assessment and reference design, supporting the Client in the preparation of tender documents and tender evaluation, assisting the Client’s team with site supervision and reporting to the Client and European Investment Bank on both progress and costs.
