Stansted G2
London

Project scope
Faber Maunsell was commissioned in 2004 by BAA, the world’s leading airport operator, on a 10-year framework contract to provide consultancy in respect of surface access to BAA’s seven airports in the UK. As part of the framework, Faber Maunsell is leading the development of a surface access strategy to serve development of a second runway at Stansted Airport.
The development at Stansted follows on from the Government’s Air Transport White Paper, published in December 2003, which recommended that the airport should be the site of the first new runway in the South East, to serve the continued expansion of air travel. The airport operator is working closely with Government and regional stakeholders to bring forward a planning application for the development in summer of 2007.
Faber Maunsell has been responsible for developing transport models of the region, and using those models to develop the surface access strategy for the airport, whilst taking account of the needs of the regional growth in population and employment. Faber Maunsell has also lead engineering studies of the M11 between the M25 and the airport, considering a range of options from Active Traffic Management through to widening, and enhancements to the access from the M11 and A120 to the airport.
Faber Maunsell is developing the Transport Assessment to accompany the planning application and, on behalf of the Highways Agency is developing the Highways Orders that will be required to take forward the highway schemes.
