Strategic Flood Risk Management Framework
England & Wales, UK
Project scope
Five year framework to undertake flood mapping and Catchment Flood Management Plans. The Strategic Flood Risk Management Framework comprises two work packages:
Work Package 1: Flood Mapping
The Environment Agency has a strategy to continue to update and improve their flood maps. These Flood maps will show the 100 year return period floodplain, the areas benefiting from defences, the increased extent of the 1 in 100-year flood due to predicted climate change and the worst historic flood outline.
Faber Maunsell is currently undertaking a number of commissions across England aimed at improving the current flood maps. These commissions include undertaking a hydrological assessment of the watercourses using the Flood Estimation Handbook, construction and calibration of 1d and 2d hydraulic models and the representation of the resultant flood extents using ground models and GIS.
Work Package 2: Catchment Flood Management Plans
The Environment Agency is to produce 80 high-level, strategic river catchment plans across England and Wales to identify and agree policies for sustainable flood risk management for the next 100 years.
As part of the framework, Faber Maunsell is currently undertaking nine of these studies across the North West, North East and Anglian Regions of the Environment Agency. These studies are each of approximately 18 months duration.
