Cleveleys Sea Wall Reconstruction

Project outline

The concrete sea wall at Cleveleys had been constructed in various stages.  The existing concrete apron and sheet pile cut-off at beach level had suffered severe abrasion damage from shingle and sand.

We undertook a detailed structural investigation of the existing structure, this determined that refacing the apron, grouting and providing concrete protection to the upper section of sheet pile would re-establish a satisfactory standard of coastal defence.

We also undertook a benefit cost assessment and prepared an Engineering Report for submission to MAFF.  A design was completed, which featured the use of fibre and steel reinforced concrete.  The works were undertaken over a twelve-week period.

All work was carried out on a tidal basis using a purpose built face shutter, designed by the contractor in accordance with specified requirements.
