Harper Adams University College

Project outline

To provide a new learning resource centre and engineering design centre.
The building is to be a landmark building to reflect the University’s modern but sustainable approach.

The building is a 2 storey building split in 2 sections; one is the learning resource centre whilst the other is the Engineering Design Centre.

Key features

  • New build project including a reinforced concrete frame up to first floor level and exposed structural timber first floor to roof.
  • Natural ventilation design utilises the thermal mass of the reinforced concrete structure to maximise “free” cooling.
  • Structural solution chosen based upon sustainability including a structural timber solution from first floor to roof.
  • Timber stressed skin roof.
  • Reinforced concrete flat slab at first floor level to provide thermal mass for cooling in conjunction with natural ventilation.
  • A rainwater harvesting scheme designed to provide recycled water to WC’s and urinals.
  • Energy efficient systems designed to provide a low energy, low maintenance building.
