Project detail

Competition winning design by David Chipperfield Architects to relocate BBC Scotland's radio, TV and media services to a new landmark building by the River Clyde at Pacific Quay.

BBC Scotland HQ will accommodate the complex technology for broadcasting in the 21st century and will deliver the latest in multimedia media production and broadcasting facilities, together with exhibition space, performance areas, TV and radio studios, offices, public areas and cafes. The facility has thus been designed to be both self-contained and accessible.

The building will form the focal point of a new media village planned for this former Glasgow Garden Festival site. The BBC and other buildings such as the Science Centre and Exhibition and Conference Centre are regenerating this area of the city. Key features of this project include building on top of infilled Victorian docks and the internal exposed structure.

The construction consists of the piled sub-structure foundations in former riverside docks, reinforced concrete frame and flat slab structure, steel framed box in box isolated acoustic studios and atrium street structures.
