Project detail

This project incorporated the redevelopment and refurbishment of Sun Life Court (formally a part of Sun Life's Insurance office complex).

The existing building was constructed in 1974 and its primary frame consisted of a reinforced concrete column, beam & waffle slab construction.

The client was looking to not only refurbish the office space but also to reflect the regeneration of the surrounding area.

The focus of the project was to extend the footprint of the building and to increase the area of office floor space inside. This was achieved by enclosing the existing forecourt by constructing a full height glass partition (Boundary Wall). This new space was then covered by lightweight steelwork roof frame utilising 2D & 3D tubular trusses.

Some of the key features included the use of 3D modelling and 3D structure analysis; value engineering allowing for reduced programme time and overall project cost; fire engineering reporting leading to reduced construction costs; feature lifts and connecting bridges; and an extension of the ground floor to provide an access and circulation walkway.
