Buildings

At Faber Maunsell we believe that the most effective way to achieve optimal performance in buildings is to provide a holistic integrated service that brings together a range of engineering disciplines.

Our core disciplines are structural engineering and building services engineering. These elements effectively define the performance parameters of a facility as a whole. Additionally, we have a wide portfolio of specialist capabilities from computational fluid dynamics, through advanced lighting, fire and acoustics consulting, to façade engineering, all of which feed into the design process. In parallel, we have a highly respected R&D function, and a sustainable development team that is continually breaking new ground in this increasingly important area. Few of our competitors can match the breadth of skills that we apply to our work.

We provide an end-to-end service for owners and developers, extending from initial planning, through detailed design, to construction and fit-out. After completion and commissioning, we can arrange and supply lifetime facilities engineering and a comprehensive asset management service.

Transportation

Faber Maunsell is one of the UK's most experienced and respected transportation consultancies, delivering a portfolio of services that extends from high-level strategy development and demand forecasting to project design and construction management. Our clients include central and local governments, national agencies, transport operators, developers, banks and construction companies.

Our in-depth knowledge of the rail and bus industries enables us to undertake strategic planning and feasibility studies, demand and revenue forecasting, and the design and implementation of entire infrastructure projects on behalf of both the owners and operators of public transport systems.

We work with property developers to assess the transport impacts associated with new building developments and help them to realise their goals by designing, procuring and supervising the implementation of a road infrastructure that is appropriate to their needs.

Our highway services include traffic management, bus priority schemes, parking solutions and road safety studies, which are often developed in association with light rail schemes and trunk roads. We also design bridges and tunnels, and provide expert advice on transport policy, strategy development and appraisal, backed by market research, across all modes of transport.

Our intelligent transport services business stream collects and processes data to provide information to travellers, drivers, network managers and fleet operators, with the objective of saving money, time and lives; while geotechnical and tunnel experts work together to produce innovative and safe construction solutions.

Environment

Environmental considerations have become a crucial factor in the planning and development of the built environment. We have strengthened our expertise in this area to provide clients in all sectors with a professional environmental engineering and consultancy service. We have also developed a particular expertise in the related area of water and wastewater.

Our environmental consultancy service is based throughout the UK and Europe. Assignments range from providing consultancy to the developers of London Gateway - the UK's largest-ever seaport and distribution facility - to the design and project management of wastewater treatment facilities.

We provide a comprehensive site investigation and remediation service for developers - particularly useful as more brownfield sites are converted for residential, retail and leisure applications.

We have concluded a number of framework agreements with leading utility companies, for whom we undertake a broad range of environmental services, including resource optimisation and asset management.

Our thinking on strategic and policy issues is informed by the practical know-how that comes from implementing and applying systems, infrastructure and mitigation technology within real world constraints.
